Closed until 2030. Here is what you can still see, where the collection went, and what to do instead.

The short version
- The Centre Pompidou closed on September 22, 2025 and reopens in 2030. The galleries, the escalator and the rooftop view are all shut; the plan is at centrepompidou.fr.
- Maison Pompidou at 50 rue Rambuteau, beside the site in the old Brancusi studio, is open: free, 11:00 to 19:00, closed Tuesdays, with the 2030 project on show and an exhibition on how the pipes got their colors, through December 24, 2026.
- The collection is on the road. In Paris this winter: Cezanne et nous at the Grand Palais to January 17, 2027; Vies minuscules in the nave of the Panthéon to January 31, 2027; Louise Bourgeois drawings at the BnF Richelieu to February 21, 2027.
- The library moved to the 12th and the cinema to mk2 Bibliothèque. Ircam stays where it was on place Stravinsky.
- For modern art in a building that is open, go to the Musée d’Art Moderne on avenue du Président-Wilson: the permanent collection is free, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Monday.
- Centre Pompidou-Metz, a TGV ride east of Paris, has the Maurizio Cattelan show built from the Pompidou collection until January 25, 2027.

What is closed
The whole building. The museum floors, the temporary galleries, the escalator tube up the front and the view from the top are closed, and will be until 2030. Work begins in earnest in early 2026: the asbestos comes off the façade, the steel frame is treated for corrosion, and the floors are rebuilt for accessibility and a new hang of the collection.
The Bpi public library reopened in the Lumière building in the 12th arrondissement on August 25, 2025, and the cinema program runs at mk2 Bibliothèque next to the BnF François-Mitterrand. Ircam, the music research institute, is still at place Stravinsky.
Maison Pompidou at 50 rue Rambuteau, beside the site in the former Brancusi studio, stays open. It is free, 11:00 to 19:00 every day but Tuesday, and shows the 2030 project plus La Bataille des couleurs, on the 1971 to 1977 fight over the colors of the pipes, until December 24, 2026. Half an hour is enough.
Where to see the collection
Cezanne et nous at the Grand Palais, September 23, 2026 to January 17, 2027: about 180 works, 70 of them by Cezanne, the rest by the painters who learned from him. €19, €16 reduced, open 10:00 to 19:30 and until 22:00 on Friday, closed Monday. Book a morning or after-17:00 slot.
Vies minuscules fills the nave of the Panthéon from September 24, 2026 to January 31, 2027 with about thirty artists from the Pompidou collection. It is included in the Panthéon ticket, €13, free for EU residents under 26, open 10:00 to 18:00 from October.
Louise Bourgeois, Extrême tension, at the BnF Richelieu on rue Vivienne, October 20, 2026 to February 21, 2027: drawings and prints, €15, €10 reduced, closed Monday. The Marcel Duchamp Prize 2026 is at the Musée d’Art Moderne to February 7, 2027, free.
To stitch these into a day with a guide, our private Paris walking tour is eight hours, starts where you are staying, and the route is yours to set; Louvre tickets are included.
What to do instead
For the modern collection the Pompidou used to show, the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris at 11 avenue du Président-Wilson is the nearest thing. The permanent collection is free, open 10:00 to 18:00, closed Monday, and the Marcel Duchamp Prize show there this winter is also free.
For the view the escalator used to give you, the Arc de Triomphe roof and the Montparnasse tower both put the whole city in front of you, and the steps of Sacré-Cœur do it for nothing.
For the neighborhood, nothing has changed. The Marais starts across rue Beaubourg, the Picasso Museum is a short walk, and Les Halles and Saint-Eustache are a few minutes the other way. The streets are open every day; the museums around here mostly close on Monday.
