About Your Private Saint-Émilion Wine Tour

Your guide picks you up at your hotel in Bordeaux and heads east into the vineyards. Coming from Paris? The TGV gets you there in two hours — your guide can meet you at Gare Saint-Jean.

Saint-Émilion is the heart of Bordeaux wine country — rolling hills, stone villages, and some of the most respected estates in the world. You’ll visit three châteaux: two Grand Cru Classé properties where you’ll get private tours and tastings, and a smaller family-run estate where the winemaker might pour for you personally. Lunch is an upscale cold picnic at one of the châteaux with wines to match.

By the end of the day, you’ll have tasted 8–10 wines and added to your wine knowledge, not in a city tasting room, but while enjoying historic countryside.

Example wineries, based on season and client preference, can include Cháteau Pavie, Château La Dauphine, Château Clos Fourtet Cháteau Soutard, Château Beauregard, Château de Ferrand and many more! Telling us your preference between whites or reds, or a little of both, as well as a favorite St. Emilion wine you want to experience, will help us plan the day for you.

Between visits, your guide walks you through the medieval hilltop village of Saint-Émilion itself — limestone streets, a historic church, and a thousand years of winemaking history packed into a few cobblestone blocks.

Stay Longer in Bordeaux

Typically, you leave Paris around 7:00 a.m. and return train leaves around 6:00 p.m. Prefer more time? We can schedule a later train so you can enjoy dinner or additional sightseeing in Bordeaux. Or, consider our Bordeaux Overnight trip for an extended stay.

How does the Bordeaux wine tour differ from your Burgundy wine tour?

Bordeaux focuses on the prestigious Saint-Émilion region, famous for Merlot-based blends and Right Bank wines. You’ll visit grand châteaux and taste structured, age-worthy reds at Classified Growth properties. Burgundy emphasizes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from smaller, family producers. Bordeaux offers castle grandeur and formal tastings, while Burgundy provides intimate, terroir-focused experiences. Both are world-class, but Bordeaux suits those who love bold reds and impressive estates.

What’s the train journey from Paris to Bordeaux like?

The high-speed TGV makes this trip remarkably comfortable—just 2 hours from Paris Montparnasse station to Bordeaux, traveling at speeds up to 200 mph. The train offers spacious seats, power outlets, a café car for coffee and snacks, and large windows to watch the French countryside blur by. WiFi is free in all classes (though connection quality can vary). First-class includes wider seats with more legroom and a 2+1 seating configuration instead of 2+2. Some folks choose second class and put the savings toward buying more wine 🙂

It’s far more relaxing than flying when you factor in traffic to the airport and security check in’s at each point. With you the train, you are picked up right at the station and will drive to an estate right away.

More Bordeaux Wine Tour FAQ’s

This tour perfectly suits all levels! Your guide explains Bordeaux basics like Left Bank versus Right Bank, what makes Saint-Émilion special, and how to taste wine properly—all without pretension. Beginners love learning why Bordeaux commands such prestige, while enthusiasts appreciate accessing Classified Growth estates and comparing different terroirs. The only requirement is curiosity about wine.

Many châteaux and wine estates in Bordeaux close on Mondays for cellar maintenance and staff rest days—it’s a long-standing French tradition. Some properties also use Mondays for bottling or racking wine without visitor interruptions. This industry-wide practice ensures the estates you visit Tuesday through Sunday can provide their best experience with full staff and properly prepared tasting rooms.

Absolutely! Classified Growth estates offer wines at better prices than US retailers, often including vintages unavailable abroad. Most châteaux ship directly to the US . Your guide helps with shipping paperwork. Alternatively, you can pack a few bottles in your luggage. The small estate visit often offers exceptional values on wines you’ll never find outside France.
