The short version

  • Open-air markets run from 7:00 to 13:30 on weekdays and to 14:30 on weekends. Every market’s days are on paris.fr.
  • The Marché Bastille on boulevard Richard-Lenoir, Thursday and Sunday, is the big one. Sunday is the day.
  • The Marché d’Aligre in the 12th, Tuesday to Sunday mornings, is the cheapest in the center, with the covered Beauvau hall next to it.
  • The Raspail organic market on Sunday morning is the expensive, beautiful one, on boulevard Raspail in the 6th.
  • The covered markets keep shop hours. The Marché Saint-Germain is open Tuesday to Sunday; the Enfants Rouges in the Marais burned down on October 12, 2026.
  • Go before 11:00 for the full stalls, or in the last half hour for the end-of-market prices. Bring cash and a bag; stallholders don’t like being asked to pick your fruit for you.

  • Marché Monge. Place Monge, 5th. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings. The Latin Quarter’s market.

Covered markets and market streets

Shoppers at the Belleville market

The Marché des Enfants Rouges on rue de Bretagne, the oldest covered market in Paris, was destroyed by fire on October 12, 2026. The city says it will find temporary locations for the stallholders, so check before you go looking for them.

The Marché Saint-Germain on rue Lobineau is open Tuesday to Saturday 8:00 to 20:00 and Sunday morning, with food stalls and a few counters.

Then the market streets, which are shops rather than stalls and open most days: rue Cler in the 7th, rue Mouffetard in the 5th, rue des Martyrs in the 9th, and rue Montorgueil by Les Halles.

Or eat your way through one with a guide: our private Marais food tour is two and a half hours, ten tastings and a bistro lunch, starting in front of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis church, every day.

When to go

Sunday morning is the best market morning in Paris: Bastille, Raspail organic, Monge and Aligre are all on, and the city shops for Sunday lunch.

Monday is the dead day. The open-air markets and most covered markets are closed.

Summer is the peak for fruit and the thinnest for crowds in August, when some stallholders go on holiday. Winter is cheese, oysters and game.
