The short version

  • Metro line 14 runs from the airport straight into Paris, through Châtelet, Pyramides, Madeleine and Gare Saint-Lazare. It takes the €14 Paris Region–Airports ticket, not a regular metro ticket; details at iledefrance-mobilites.fr.
  • The same €14 ticket covers Orlyval to Antony and the RER B into the city, if your hotel is on the B line. Orlyval runs every 5 to 7 minutes from 5:40 to 23:35.
  • A taxi from the official rank is a flat €36 to the Left Bank and €45 to the Right Bank, luggage included, both directions.
  • Tram T7 to Villejuif, then metro line 7, is the cheap slow way: 45 minutes on the tram on a €2 ticket, then a metro ticket.
  • A private transfer means a driver outside customs with your name on a sign. Ours start at $185 for up to three people.
  • With bags and a family after a long flight, take the taxi or the transfer. With a carry-on and a hotel near a line 14 stop, take the metro.

The options

  • Metro line 14. €14 on the airport ticket, which includes connections to the rest of the metro within two hours. The fastest way to Châtelet, Madeleine and Saint-Lazare.
  • Orlyval and RER B. The same €14 ticket. Orlyval is the automatic shuttle to Antony, six minutes, then the RER B north through Denfert-Rochereau, Saint-Michel, Châtelet and Gare du Nord.
  • Taxi. Flat €36 to the Left Bank and €45 to the Right Bank, set for 2026 and published at service-public.gouv.fr. No surcharge can be added to the flat fare.
  • Tram T7. To Villejuif–Louis Aragon in 45 minutes on a €2 Bus-Tram ticket, then metro line 7 into the center on a second ticket.
  • Private transfer. Our airport transfers run from Orly as well as CDG: a Mercedes E-Class for up to three at $185, a minivan for up to seven at $225, about an hour to your hotel.

What we’d do

A Paris metro train at the platform

If your hotel is near a line 14 stop, take the metro. Châtelet, Pyramides for the Louvre and the Opera, Madeleine and Saint-Lazare are all on it, and it is driverless, frequent and quick.

If you’re staying on the Left Bank, the taxi is the better deal from Orly than from CDG: €36 flat, and the airport is south of the city, so the ride is short.

After an overnight flight with children and suitcases, take a taxi from the rank or book the transfer. Line 14 is busy at rush hour and the stations are deep.

What goes wrong

The most common mistake is buying a regular €2.55 metro ticket. It won’t open the gates at the airport station; line 14 to Orly needs the €14 airport ticket or a pass that covers all zones.

The airport ticket can’t go on a Navigo Easy card that already holds metro tickets. Put it in the Île-de-France Mobilités app on your phone, or buy a second card.

Ignore anyone in the arrivals hall offering a car. Licensed taxis wait at the marked rank outside, with a Taxi Parisien roof light and a meter.
