Private Mont St Michel Tour Itinerary

Private pick up in Paris. With a door-to-door driver/guide in a comfortable, air-conditioned mini-van, your day could not be easier. A 7 a.m. start ensures arrival at the Mont before the bigger buses arrive at 11 a.m. The wetlands around the Mont were restored over the past few years, so your guide will park about a mile away. Dedicated shuttles take you to the causeway, where you will walk an incline up into the magical town. Though there are 300 steps up, it’s a well-paced walk with stops available every 50 steps or so. Take a picture of the breathtaking wetlands around the Mont at every stop. Many do!

In just a few hours, you will experience the fascinating history of the Mont and its village. Considered an important pilgrimage stop for Catholic believers, the Abbey’s building was commenced thanks to a religious vision by the monk who was eventually sainted, Michel. The famous fast-moving tides around the island made it a perfect fortress against invaders, a goal for conquest, and a natural-made prison.

Like many monuments and towns along the coast, the island of the Mont played a role during the Norman Conquest, The Hundred Years War, and of course World War II.

Lunch Options

Lunch is not included, but numerous cafes are on offer, with seafood, especially oysters, a popular choice. You may have heard of the famous omelet at La Mere Poulard hotel and restaurant. This experience can be reserved (to be paid at the time). Just let us know! Dating from 1888, when it started as a small inn, La mere Poulard offers, as it has for more than 100 years, a unique omelet made over a wood fire. This delicate creation starts with hand whipped egg whites folded into the yolks. Time-consuming, and well worth the wait for culinary pilgrims.

Stroll the medieval streets of Mont St Michel

At the end of your tour you will be driven back to Paris in time for a later dinner. Some clients prefer to be driven to Bayeux to stay over, and enjoy a D-Day tour the next day. Ask us about this option.
